Iced Matcha Latte Recipe: Café-Quality in 3 Minutes

The iced matcha latte is most people’s first matcha — and it’s easy to make at home better than most cafés serve it. The whole trick is dissolving the matcha properly before it ever meets the milk.

Ingredients (1 glass)

Method

  1. Sift the matcha into a small bowl or cup. Don’t skip this — clumps that survive will float forever.
  2. Add the hot water and whisk (bamboo whisk, milk frother, or even a small jar with a tight lid, shaken hard) until completely smooth and slightly foamy.
  3. Fill a glass with ice, pour in the milk, and stir in sweetener if using.
  4. Pour the matcha over the top. It will layer green-over-white — stir before drinking, or don’t, for the look.

Tips

From latte to bowl

Lattes are a great door into matcha, but milk hides most of what makes good matcha interesting. When you’re curious what the powder actually tastes like, try a properly whisked bowl of straight matcha — it’s a different drink entirely.
